Persistence of memory by Mykola

One of my favourite work of art is the Persistence of memory.

This is one of the most famous paintings of Salvador Dalí and it was painted in 1931. This is exposed in Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Salvador Dalí painted this work a night when he feels bad. He thought about the cheese that he has eaten for dinner and scenery of Portlligat.

In the painting we can see the beach, the sky and the four hot watches. The watches mean the cheese and the time of life. In a watch of the painting there is a fly, and on another watch the are ants because Salvador Dalí was afraid of the insects when he was a child.

I like this work a lot because I think that the colours of painting are very nice and the image is very spectacular to see. 

Colosseum

My favorite work of art is the Colosseum of Rome. 

It was build about 1920 years ago by the Flavian emperors. The Colosseum was made with travertino, tuff, tiles and roman cement. It have aneliptical shape and which mesures 188m  and 156 the shorter one. Underground it have two steps, and avobe it there are three floors of arcades and a fourth storey with windows. There were eighty arches on every floor, divided by pillars with a half column.

Colosseum was the point of meeting to saw sows like the gladiators' fights or fight with beasts, the public executions of the reprobates to death that they were coming from all parts of the Empire to find here his last final moment.

After the imperial times the Colosseum was abandoned, but today is a scenary for important events or shows. 

It is visited by milions of people every year.

I like this work of art because I think that's very beautiful in spite the horrible things that were done there.

David of Miguel Angel by Gemma.

This sculpture was created by Miquel Angel in 1504. It was a order to the cathedral of Sta. Maria of Fiore, in Florence. This sculpture measures 5,17m of height, and it is made of white marble. It representes to David Biblical king. In addition, it's a symbol of Florence Republic. Currently, it find in The Gallery of the Academy of Florence. It's considerate a master work of art and a the most famous of the world.

This is my favourite work of art. This is a portrait of a duck made by an anounymos person.In these days, the picture is in the collection of  BBVA bank.

I like this picture because I like ducks and they transfer me a sense of tranquility.

La Gran Esfinge

My favorite work of art is La Gran Esfinge de Guiza.

It is a monumental sculpture located at the West Bank of the River Nile, in the city of Guiza.

La Gran Esfinge was formed carving out a limestone hill situated on the plateau of Guiza. It has a height of some twenty meters, measuring the face over five meters. The head could represent Khefren Pharaoh, keeping the body the shape of a lion.

In the 20th century have been carried out restoration Works consolidation of the coating in 1925, with unsatisfying results by the techniques and materials used, with interventions later in 1980 and 1992.

Mona Lisa

One of my favourite works of art is Mona Lisa.

 

It’s the most famous painting of all times.

Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardi da Vinci during the Renaissance in Florence.

He began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503 or 1504 and finished it shortly before he died in 1519.

The painting is named for Lisa del Giocondo, a member of a wealthy family of Florence.

In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen by Louvre Employee Vincenzo Peruggia, an Italian patriot who believed the Mona Lisa should be returned to Italy.

 After having kept the painting in his apartment for two years, Peruggia was finally caught when he attempted to sell it to the directors of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Today, the Mona Lisa hangs again in the Louvre in Paris where 6 million people see the painting each year.

Mona Lisa is one of my favourite works of art, because it is different and it seems a very mysterious smile of the woman's portrait, and I like it!! 

EIFFEL TOWER BY CARLES DOMÈNECH

• My favorite building is Eiffiel Tower, is made of iron.

• The Eiffel Tower (French, Eiffel Tower) was built on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition held in Paris (France) in 1889. Was a landmark in the construction of iron. TheFrench engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel designed the impressive cast iron lattice.

• When it was built was the world's tallest monument, 300 meters (if you add the radio antenna is located at the top, its height is 324 meters). When built, the tower weighed about 7300 tons, while today it is estimated his weight at more than 10,000 t (due to the museum, restaurants, stores and shops that hosts). The tower was scheduled to arrive at 350 meters, but the neighbors were alarmed by the threat that a building could fall so high, and marched about a change of plans.

• The maintenance of the tower includes applying fifty tons of paint every five years, in order to protect it from corrosion. Sometimes I change the color of paint (the tower in 2005 showed a brown hue). On the first floor, there are consoles that allow voting on the election of the future color of the structure. The original color of the tower was yellow, but today no trace remains of this color. It is considered that approximately half of the unions whose structure is made ​​for security reasons, namely, that the tower would remain standing but failed half of the connections between their parts. This was to ensure the reliability from the beginning of the tower, due to the fact that at the time of its construction, many Parisians were afraid it may fall causing a catastrophe. Between 1889 and 2004, the Eiffel Tower received more than 200 million visitors from within France and around the world. The Eiffel Tower is the most visited site on the planet.

One of my favourites work of art is the Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore is a National Monument built to commemorate some of the United States' greatest presidents.  These are the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. 

Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum.The entire memorial covers 1,278.45 acres.

In year 1927 the faces of the presidents were completed between 1934 and 1939. After the death of Gutzon Borglum, in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took over the building and were finished in 1941.I think it's a very nice sculpture and important because they come out the faces of some presidents.

Lego Sculptures by

This is my favorite sculpture is made ​​with Lego bricks.

Lego is a popular line of construction toys manufactured by the Lego Group, a privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. The company's flagship product, Lego, consists of colorful interlocking plastic bricks and an accompanying array of gears, minifigures and various other parts. Lego bricks can be assembled and connected in many ways, to construct such objects as vehicles, buildings, and even working robots. Anything constructed can then be taken apart again, and the pieces used to make other objects. The toys were originally designed in the 1940s in Denmark and have achieved an international appeal, with an extensive subculture that supports Lego movies, games, competitions, and five Lego themed amusement parks.

Lego pieces of all varieties comprise a universal system. Despite variation in the design and purpose of individual pieces over the years, each remains compatible in some way with existing pieces. Lego bricks from 1958 still interlock with those made in the current time, and Lego sets for young children are compatible with those made for teenagers.

Culis Monumentalibus by Laura Carro

 One of my favourites work of art is the famous sculpture located in Oviedo, Spain. 

It was designed by Eduardo Úrculo and it was built on October 23, 2001.  Culis Monumentabilus was made of bronze and granite and it's 4 meters high. It weighs 1000 kg.  This work of art is a big bottom elevated by a long legs situated in Calle Pelayo. The city of Oviedo wanted to make a open-air museum  and the mayor asked to Eduardo if he could make a sculpture.  

Eduardo Úrculo, the author, is one of the biggest names in contemporany art and his works of art are in the best contemporany art museums in the world.

I like this sculpture because I think that is a funny one.  In my opinion, is an original work of art because rarely you go down a street and you see a giant bottom. 

Sagrada Família by Marina Villegas!

One of my favorites work of art is the Sagrada Família.
This monumental is the church dedicated to the Holy Family, Gaudi's most famous work, the finest example of his visionary genius and is too the worldwide symbol of Barcelona. The Sagrada Família was begun in 1882 by the architect Francesc de Paula del Villar i Lozano, after certain divergences with the promoters and had begun only the crypt, gave up the direction of the work. A year later in 1883, Gaudi takes the direction of works and he will devote all its life to the realization of this monument leaved unfinished, since he died in 1926. The work was interrupted in 1936 when the crypt and Gaudi's studio were burnt. The project was resumed in 1952 using existing drawings and models. The Sagrada Família has should be able to accommodate more than 13,000 people, and the platforms, on the sides, a chorus of 1,500 people. The whole of the building is an allegory of the Christian religion. The 170 height meters arrow will incarnate Christ. The uniqueness and complexity of the project, make practically impossible to give a precise date of time necessary to build the remaining ten domes. The most important factor is the firm will of a great number of people who wish to contribute to the completion of the temple and carry out the wishes of Gaudi. And for this reason the Sagrada Familia is my favorite work of art, because I think that it's amazing and the reason why is being built is also amazing!

MORE THAN A WONDER! (colosseum by sheila )

One of my favourite work of art is Colosseum of Rome. This work of art was built by emperor Vespasian.
It is made of stone and marble. The Coliseum was created,because the anfitheatre of Rome, in the big fire in 64, was burned.
And then,Vespasian, said that will be built a new Anfitheatre. The new Anfitheatre is  the Coliseum.
Was inaugurated in 69, and closed in the 80. 
It's a big round stone and marble, wich seats approximately 45.000 people.
Around the Coliseum had cages where thay kept the animals before the fights. I in the middle of the floor was made of sand to make the shows and fights.
In this place, was celebrated a lot of fights of gladiators, in this fights was died millions of persons.
the story no I liked a lot, but the monument is awsome.

This is a important part of the city, because the colosseum is a big tourism. I Love this work of art, because it's beautiful and awsome , and  is a famous work of art.

 I think that is normal that is one of the 7 wonders of the world!.

Statue of Liberty by Yaiza

One of my favorites work of art is the Statue of Liberty. This monument was given by France to USA in 1886 because, in 1886, was the USA independence's 100^th anniversary.

The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi but other people helped him. Important people like Joseph Pulitzer or Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel helped in this work of art too.

Statue of Liberty was made of copper and it's 92,99 meters. This work of art represents the liberty enlightening the world and because it, the seven peaks of his crown represent all of the continents of the world.

In the past, this statue was used like a lighthouse for the sailors but now is just a monument.

Statue of Liberty is situated in Liberty island (New York), in the east of USA.

Everyone can visit it! It's possible to enter in the statue's crown. If you want to visit it, you have to catch a ferry and you will be arrive on the island. The price for visit the Statue of Liberty is 12$.

It is one of my favorites works of art because I think that it's awesome and I like his history and his meaning too.

Searching for new trends by Víctor Quintas

One of my favourite contemporary works of art is Searching for new trends. This illustration was made by the Russian designer Anton Marrast, who actually lives in Barcelona. He’s well known for his surrealistic drawings and his manipulations of photographs. Searching for new trends was published for the first time in Designcollector digital magazine.

I don’t know exactly whether the image was painted using traditional techniques or done with digital tools—or maybe mixing both together. However, you can acquire a print version of it in the author’s website. The picture is a portrait of a woman who is licking a cassette tape while she rewinds it with a pencil. But that’s only the literal interpretation. There’s another metaphorical and deeper reading. The artist said about this: ‘On my artwork the girl licks a tape, and that is not an obvious state of nonsense. She reads or listens to the tape directly through the tongue.’ In my opinion, this is her solution to find new ways of keeping up-to-date, so she’s connecting with new trends as well as creating a trend itself (licking cassettes). I think this should be the aim of the 21 century artists—not licking tapes, but being influenced and innovating at the same time.

I really like this illustration because it’s very well painted. I love the details on the woman’s fingers. But not only that, I also like it because, although it’s unusual and surrealistic, Searching for new trends conveys a right vision of art.

Scotland's Graffiti Castle by Eva Torres.

My favourite work of art is Scotland's Graffiti Castle. It is a castle owned by Lord Glasgow and the idea of cover it with graffiti came from his son and daughter. They asked Nina, Nunca and the twins Os Gemeos, who are well-known in Brazil to spend a month and do this porject at Kelburn Castle, which is situated on the west coast of Scotland, 35 miles from Glasgow. The design was first created in the studio and then the walls were painted white. They used 1.500 cans of spray paint. The back part of the castle is covered with faces, figures and animals. The brightly-coloured designs are painted on the walls, turrets and chimneys. The whole project was completed in four weeks and it was recorded on video. The Castle is open to the public every day from 10am until 6pm. I like this work of art because I think it is very original to combine the beauty of an old castle together with the modern graffiti art.
